I’m sick of Mountains….

I’ve had it up to here with mountains….but I think I still have one or two lessons to do before I can move on to greener pastures.

I tried to deviate into painting daisies yesterday – I found some really lovely reference photos, and have had ideas about colours and styles spinning around my head all week. But when it came to put brush and paint on paper…..nothing seemed to work. I had three or four attempts at a close-up of a daisy – but not one of them come close to being eligible to appear on this page. Maybe next time….

So after giving up on flowers, I went back into the mountains and after no less than 6 attempts am reasonably satisfied with this result. The aim of the lesson was on techniques of showing the mist in front of the mountainst, and I think I managed the mist ok – the problem was the sky, the clouds, the mountains, the hills, the background, the foreground. You name it, I struggled with it. The colours are still too dark and intense for my liking – gotta get that consistency of paint straightened out.

Sigh…nearly came to throwing the paints all over the wall, but managed to restrain myself. Guess I’ll just need to keep practicing, again, and again, and again!

  1. this is a really inspiring painting!

  2. I like your work, don’t give up on the poor old forgotten mountains yet!

    • Someone said (or sang!) – “Climb every mountain…..” – I think life is full of mountains, so at least painting them is one way of “ticking them off a list”. Thanks for leaving a comment – glad you like the paintings.
