A blog award….

I was delighted to receive a blog award from Judith Farnworth. I have to admit to also feeling a little apprehensive about receiving a blog award – I’ve noticed some comments and vibes on other blogs that sometimes the “rules” connected to some  blog awards make them appear to have ominous chain-letter overtones. And so, of course, the rebel in me yells – NO – I don’t want to conform! But it’s not every day that an award comes along, especially to my humble little old blog…..

And…. seeing that Judith was the one who nominated me, I think I will “get with the programme” – I have learnt a lot from her over the last few months; stumbling across her paintings in ID&P, followed her to Jean Haines’ blog, wandered into PMP Loose Group and am now delightfully tracking her on her very own blog and hearing about her ventures in the real world. Judith has been instrumental into opening up the world of watercolour to me, so the least I can do is to accept the award… with graciousness and gratefulness 🙂 Thank you, Judith!

Rules that accompany acceptance of the award – they really are not that onerous!

  1. You thank the person who gave you the award √
  2. Then link back to that person’s blog  √
  3. Copy and paste the Liebster award to your own profile √
  4. Pick 5 blogs who you feel deserve to be noticed (they have to have under 200 followers) ==> coming up in a few lines’ time
  5. Then finally blog it and leave a comment to let your 5 choices know they have been chosen. ==> in process

The blogs that I nominate are blogs that have inspired me – please feel free to pass on the award or not – no offence taken! [Disclaimer: in some cases I am not sure how many followers you have – please forgive me if you already have more than 200 – Well done, you! I also realised that most of the blogs I follow already have hundreds of followers, so I had to hunt around for those blogs that deserve some airtime!]

1. Whimsy Dream – the first blog that I ever started to follow when I joined the blogging world – not sure how often Whimsy is blogging these days, but she deserves my vote for being first on my list! Whimsy – hope you find time to read this and know that you are important!

2. Woman in Thrisis – This blogger makes me smile and laugh and sometimes cry,  and she always makes me think and she is always real.

3. Brush, Needle and Whisk – one of my most recent blogs to follow – I love the byline – Creativity in a crazy world – I can relate to this thought! [Stop press: Have noticed that Brush, Needle and Whisk has received another blog award recently. No pressure to conform to this one, But I decided to leave my nomination here, so that you know that your blog matters!]

4. Petals and Paints – Helen has the most incredible detailed paintings – I can only gaze in wonder and scurry back to my loose painting world in absolute fear that I might ever have to find the patience to work so neatly and carefully!.

5. Documenting Life – I stumbled across Dipayan Bhattacharjee’s photographic blog on Freshly Pressed – I’ve only been following his blog for about 5 minutes, but he has captured such stunning photos with incredible attention to detail, and so much thought has gone into the photos and the quotes, that I felt that his blog deserves a mention!

The last part of the award acceptance seems to be to write 5 things about yourself that the blog world doesn’t know about. I decided to focus on the creative stuff about me.

1. I used to be a teacher – one has to be very creative trying to create knowledge out of sometimes-stubborn brain matter!

4. Even tho’ I have always considered myself as analytical and left-brained – when I watch this dancer, I can only see her in a right-brained way, no matter how hard I stare at her! Maybe I’m not as left-brained as I think I am….

2. I love cooking – my daughter reports that I have not and cannot cook the same dish twice – I constantly modify and mutate recipes to suit the ingredients I have at hand or according to my mood. I wish I could be as confident with my painting as I am with my cooking abilities!

5. At one or other stage in my life I have studied English, Afrikaans, German, Xhosa, Setswana and Mandarin – with varying degrees of success and ability to communicate!

3. I love reading – it enthrals me how writers paint word pictures with adjectives and adverbs, taking boring nouns and everyday verbs and painting them with great skill, turning them into objects and actions full of intrigue and colour and life. One day when I grow up as an artist I would like to be able to take a descriptive passage from a book – and paint into life a representation of the printed words. Dreaming….

  1. Well first of all thank your lovely words and am so delighted and proud you feel I have had any influence on your journey with watercolour!!!! Your chosen blogs are all fab and no less than I would have expected from you!!!

  2. Thank you so much for the kind words! I am sorry that I have not acknowledged this until now. I have been out of town for a week on vacation and prior to that I had been dealing with personal family matters for much of the summer… hence why so few posts all summer long. I’d like to respond to this in kind soon. But for now… thank you 🙂

    • No pressure – from what I have read on your blog over the last few months, I have understood that things are somewhat rough at the moment. Just wanted you to know that you are valued and appreciated! Take care.
